MedRoute is possible thanks to the collaboration with the Istituto di Storia per l’Europa Mediterranea del Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche (ISEM-CNR), Cagliari, Italy, and the University of Maryland at College Park, Mayland, USA.

The CNR is the largest public research institution in Italy, the only one under the Ministry of Research and Education performing multidisciplinary activities. It is organized in 7 Departments, 108 Institutes and more than 500 Research Units. In this frame, the ISEM represents the leading Italian Institute aiming, through interdisciplinary approach, at studying political, institutional, social, and economic Mediterranean history. The MedRoute supervisor is Prof Marcello Verga, Professor of History at the Università degli Studi di Firenze and Director of the ISEM-CNR, whereas the responsible for the return phase is Doctor Annamaria Oliva, director of the Roman section of the ISEM.

The University of Maryland is a public research university, the flagship campus of the University System of Maryland, and the original 1862 land-grant institution in the State. It is amongst one of the top twenty public research university of the United States. The Department of History is highly eclectic and integrated, its members working together, crossing chronological, geographical, and thematic boundaries. In the Department are active two Research Centers, the Miller Center for Historical Studies and the Center for Global Migration Studies, while the Centre for Middle East Studies represents a crucial framework for a less Eurocentric approach to Mediterranean Studies. The MedRoute supervisor at UMD is Prof Stefano Villani.
